Illustrating The Bigger Picture
NFF wanted an animation that illustrated how wild fires can affect all different communities, and how everyone can help. To highlight the inter-connective nature of their message, they wanted to create a visual metaphor that would help push this. I created a storyboard that showed a quilt with all different types of land, farms, cities, etc. This highlighted how wildfire can affect all the patches on this quilt, not just land that is next to a forest.

Building The Boards
Once the storyboard sketches were approved, I went ahead with rendering the illustrations. After looking over the style options I shared, the NFF team decided to go with a hand-drawn style. Since my background is illustration, I really enjoy working in this style. I was able to really push the creative in this project and craft a beautiful metaphor.

Animating Frame-by-frame
With the storyboards finalized, I moved into animation production. This piece uses a mix of 2D animation and frame-by-frame. Utilizing frame-by-frame allowed me to create animation that matched the hand-drawn style of the illustrations. It is a time consuming practice, but I feel that it is always worth it. Lastly, I incorporated voice over and music.
