Illustrating to Educate
In cover art illustrations for Cell Press, I illustrated Crowley Lab’s finding that the hormone somatostatin (SST) encourages taking riskier paths with higher potential rewards. My illustrations translated the scientific data into a comprehensive and inviting visual. I was art-directed by the team at Stellate Communications.
Alice in Wonderland
In this illustration, Alice is being pulled down the rabbit hole by SST. I balanced the scientific elements with Alice in Wonderland references to make the illustration approachable while still educational. The color and stylization emphasize the contrast between the safe and the risky paths.
In the Spotlight
Here, I illustrated SST pulling the strings in a high-risk/high-reward situation. The paper cut style adds depth and dramatizes the weight of the decision. I enjoy taking complex data and making it approachable.
